This work in this show was made during the Camosun Visual Arts Van der Brink Residency in the summer of 2018. My goal was to explore my poetry manuscript, The Mechanics of Fracture in visual format. Themes in this work centre on grief and examines the fracture of family with the violent death of my father in a car accident in 1988. I found solace in the fact that there was a discipline of engineering that was devoted to understanding and fixing the cracks in materials. My father was an civil engineer and his materials were concrete and steel. Mine are poetry and visual art. This has been a long conversation decades in the making.
