The Promise of Something Grand interrogates how when someone is lost, we only have traces of them left. This could be photographs, memories or objects. In my father’s case it was primarily traces of his working life: blueprints. As a civil engineer, these were his reference guides; as a poet and artist this work is my reference guide for navigating grief.
The exhibition will include a series of cyanotypes that combine poetry and image and look at grief and trauma (both personal and collective) as seen through the language and metaphors of Fracture Mechanics (a discipline of engineering).
